Ten Activities for Home Gardeners
See Dr. Charlie Headington for more details and suggested readings.

Garden Greensboro Montessori School1. Landscape with edible plants and herbs. Grow dwarf fruit trees and bushes, herbs, and beneficial flowers. See www.ediblelandscaping.com.
2. Compost your kitchen waste and even your paper. Turn waste into “black gold.”
3. Build and plant an herb spiral (we have two at GMS) near your back door.
4. Go organic. Work with nature, not against it. Avoid synthetic fertilizers (10-10-10) and pesticides.
5. Practice “no-till” or “lasagna” gardening. Let worms do the work, turning and fertilizing the soil.
6. Plant or keep a “wild” or “sacred” space for all the other creatures. The National Wildlife Federation has a program or design your own. Just think wildly.
Garden Greensboro Montessori School 7. Eat from your garden. Grow the best food in the world.
8. Supplement your home garden with food from the farmer’s market. Local or “Slow” food tastes best and supports our local economy.
9. Design your own landscape to reflect your values. Be willing to be different whether in the front or back yard.
10. Sit back and enjoy the beauty and abundance of nature. Ecological and organic gardening can take less time than you think.
