Tracy Sanders-Carr has been a Primary teacher at GMS since January 2003.
She first came to GMS to help out in our after school CASA program and we saw amazing potential in her from the very start. She has been a cornerstone in our Primary faculty and she does it with an infectious smile everyday! She completed her Montessori teaching credential for three to six year olds with Southwestern Montessori Training Center in 2005.
Tracy loves to write and is also an avid reader of fiction. Her favorite quote by Jane Austen is "We have all a better guide in ourselves, if we would attend to it, than any other person can be." No words could describe her better. Tracy has a strong inner compass and she passes that confidence on to her young students in the Primary program.
She is graduate of UNC Chapel Hill with a BA in Women's Studies. A TarHeel through and through, you can catch her wearing Carolina blue at least one day a week.
Together with colleagues and friends, Nancy Hofer, Kelly Wolf and Ellen Lloyd, Tracy helped establish an organization called Little Birds of Hope, in memory of her dear friend and GMS teaching partner, Evelyn Rashid, who lost her battle to cancer three years ago. The organization was founded with the idea of supporting volunteerism, kindness and compassion. As its mission states: "Little Birds of Hope spreads seeds of hope by cultivating a culture of compassion with action." Be sure to ask Tracy about this inspiring project!
Tracy and her husband, Dwight, have a six year old son, Phoenix, who is a GMS student.
