The GMS CASA program is a four star licensed
childcare program, licensed by the state of North Carolina Division
of Child Development. CASA provides before and after school care
for children enrolled in the School. The CASA program is designed
to accommodate parents’ busy schedules and provides an extension
of the Montessori classroom philosophy in a safe and enriching environment.
All children, ages 4 months and older, are eligible for CASA on days
in which they are enrolled in regular classes. Children may register
on a permanent contracted basis or use drop-in services when space
is available.
Early Bird CASA
Early Bird is available from 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. prior to
the beginning of each school day. Children must be signed in by an
adult in the designated
classrooms upon their arrival at school.
After School CASA
After school CASA is available as an extension of all Montessori programs beginning
at 11:30 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m. Children may use CASA at the end of their
regularly scheduled class. All children are divided into age groups and each
teacher will provide a host of structured, enriching, and age-appropriate activities
that children enjoy. Upon dismissal, children must be signed out by either a
parent or person(s) authorized on the student emergency/transportation form.
If an additional person needs to pick up a child, a written permission to pick
up must be submitted by the parent. It can be faxed to the School at 665-9351,

Napping Rooms
Young children who stay after lunch will nap in one of the toddler classrooms.
After lunch, children will rest on mats provided by the School. If your child
prefers a blanket for napping, you may bring one from home. During naptime, teachers
will provide a peaceful environment for the children. Children are not required
to go to sleep, but they must lie quietly on mats during the rest period. We
request that children not be picked up early from the napping room so as not
to disturb other children. Children are awakened from their naps at 2:00pm. Children
4 years or older, who are in our Half-Day Primary Program and who no longer take
naps, may stay in their morning classroom until 2:30 each day. There is a special
line designated to the 4 year olds on the CASA contract form. Please contact
Nancy Hofer if you have questions.
CASA Registration
CASA fees for permanently enrolled children are based on actual school calendar
days. Payment for CASA services may be made on a monthly basis, over 9 months,
or one-time. If monthly payments are selected, payments are due on the 1st of
every month beginning September 1, 2005 and ending May 1, 2006. A one-time payment
is due on or before September 1, 2005. A late charge of $20.00 will be assessed
for all payments received after the 10th of the month.
CASA registration forms are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Please
fill out the Registration Form attached and return it to GMS as soon as possible.
Please keep the white copy for your records and return the yellow copy to the
School.
Snack
As a convenience to parents, the school provides snack for all the CASA students.
Drop-In CASA
Drop-In CASA is available at the rate of $7.00 per hour. Reservations
must be made in advance to determine space availability and can be
made by telephone
or in person by contacting the office. No permanent Drop-In reservations
will be accepted. Any care needed on a regular basis must be contracted.
Payment must be made by check for Drop-In CASA at the time service is rendered.
Cancellation of Drop-In reservations must be made in person or by phone. Reservations
will be billed if cancellation notice is not given in advance.
Cancellation/Change Policy
CASA registration may be cancelled or changed by submitting a written request
to the office and related rate changes will be effective the first day of the
following month
Special CASA Days: School Closed – CASA
Open
On days when the School is closed and CASA is open (teacher workdays, parent-teacher
conference days) parents may sign up their children for CASA on a drop-in basis.
Children must be pre-registered for those days so the School can provide appropriate
childcare staff. To pre-register a child for these “special” days,
please call the office prior to the day of special CASA. The charge for contracted
CASA students is $5.30/hour. The charge for students not contracted with the
CASA program is the drop-in rate of $7.00/hour. The following are days when
school is closed and CASA is open all day: October 31st, November 10th and
11th, February 27th, March 16th and 17th. The contracted CASA fee includes
days when school is open for only 1⁄2 day and CASA is open in the afternoons.
Please note that school and CASA will be closed for two professional development
meetings; all day Friday, September 30th and the afternoon of Thursday, February
16th (before the winter break on Friday).
Late Pick-ups/Early Arrivals
Children must be picked up from school or CASA at designated times. If you
realize that you will be late picking up your child, you must call the office
in advance. Drop-in CASA may be available to extend your pick-up time. Children
picked up after scheduled dismissal will be billed at a rate of $5.00 per every
15 minutes late.
CASA Enrichment Programs
Each semester the School offers afternoon classes in a variety of enriching
activities. A letter will go home to parents by mid September listing the available
classes. The Enrichment Programs last 10 weeks and are held immediately after
school. CASA contracted students are able to take the classes at a reduced
rate if the class falls on a day when the student is contracted to be in CASA.
