Nancy Hofer, GMS Associate Head of School, writes in from the Big Apple!
We had a great day at the conference. We heard from representatives from various NGO’s. We learned a lot about clean water shortage in many countries, micro loans, funding for school’s in need in the U. S., and hunger in the U. S. The students worked collaboratively in groups with students from other schools to make a logo and and a slogan about saving water. They also wrote to children in Tanzania who were given the means to collect rain water from donations from students in Montessori schools including GMS.
We ate Ethiopian food for lunch and Italian food in Little Italy for dinner. We visited Wall St., had a photo op with The Bull, saw the Statue of Liberty from afar and saw the Freedom Tower at Ground Zero. We even did a little shopping.
Tomorrow we tour the UN, meet with the delegate of Syria, eat more Italian food and go to shows at night. We also plan to do more shopping as we will have more time. Breakfast will be at the Starlight Diner where we will be serenaded by wait staff singing show tunes.
