Dear GMS Families,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of The Greensboro Montessori School, it is my great pleasure to announce the appointment of Paul Raymond as the new Head of School, effective July 1, 2014.
Paul's selection marks the conclusion of a rigorous national search, during which we were privileged to review the dossiers of and meet with education leaders from across the country. The Search Committee and the Board of Trustees enthusiastically endorsed Paul's candidacy and voted unanimously in favor of his appointment.
In Paul, we have identified a skillful, confident, and experienced school administrator; a dynamic personality; and a strategic leader, highly regarded in the Montessori school landscape. The Board is deeply impressed by Paul's management experience combined with his comprehensive Montessori teaching career at every level from primary to middle school.
Paul has over 30 years of experience in Montessori education and school leadership. Currently Head of School at Quest Montessori School in Narragansett, Rhode Island, Paul has overseen a period of increasing enrollment as well as conceived and built a beautiful permanent home for the school. Prior to his time at Quest, Paul spent ten years as Director of Educational Programs at the Montessori School of Raleigh, overseeing accreditation, developing the scope and sequence of curriculum from Toddler through Middle School and guiding the development of the Montessori Middle School program. Paul taught both the Lower and Upper Elementary programs for the Montessori School of Maui. Earlier in his career he owned and directed the Montessori Country School on a farm in Johannesburg, South Africa. Paul holds Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Montessori certifications for both Early Childhood and Elementary. He also has completed the Montessori Adolescent Training Program (NAMTA). Paul holds a BA from Humboldt State University, CA in Social Work.
Paul's wife, Cheryl, also a passionate Montessori educator who currently teaches lower elementary at Quest Montessori School, has accepted a position at The Montessori School of Winston Salem. Paul and Cheryl have two children: Alanna, a freshman at UNC-Wilmington, and Zac, a sixth grader. In the coming months, we will coordinate several events to introduce Paul and his family to students, parents, alumnae, and friends. I am confident that, upon meeting Paul, you will share our optimism for the school under his leadership.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to express our appreciation for all of the diligent efforts that went into the selection of our new Head of School. I'd like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the Search Committee as well as to the community of parents, faculty and staff who participated in various aspects of this process. Also, a special thanks to Amy Wagoner who chaired our Search Committee and ensured a successful process in selecting our fabulous new Head of School.
As we anticipate the future ahead under Paul's guidance, we also look forward to thanking and celebrating Frank Brainard for seventeen transformative years at GMS. Thanks to Frank's legacy, a palpable sense of enthusiasm and energy surrounds our community as we approach the school's 40th anniversary. This is truly an exciting time for GMS
Please join us in welcoming Paul to our community.
President, GMS Board of Trustees
