The GMS middle school students hosted a forum for the candidates seeking to become the Republican nominee for the NC 6th congressional district. 8 of the 9 candidates attended the event. Three students were the monitors, others greeted visitors, ran the sound, filmed the event and even kept the candidates within their allotted three minutes.
All the students in the middle school participated in the event. They worked together in small groups to draft insightful questions, which covered topics including the environment, taxes, education, gay marriage, minimum wage and more. Candidates were given time to present their platforms and then were read randomly selected questions by the students.
The gym was full of parents and visitors to the campus, including cameramen and reporters from WFMY, WXII and WGHP. The News & Record also sent a reporter and photographer. Earlier in the week three students were interviewed on WFDD.
